Scandinavian Airlines was formed shortly after the end of [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] World War 2, by combining the efforts of several airlines and a private investor from Sweden. This alliance of like-minded aviation interests because they [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] saw a clear need to meet the rising demand for international travel. Since the war had ended, the airways were once again safe to fly. European skies were filled with flights not long after the company was created. Using the existing fleet assets and infrastructure helped. The result over the years to come was a dedicated effort to provide quality service as well as taking advantage of new [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] alliances.

The year 2006 yielded 42 billion Swedish Krona, or SEK for SAS. During 2006, SAS carried just over 25 million passengers to domestic and international destinations around the world. As far as the top 10 in Europe for 2006, the statistics put them at #9 on that [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] list. A big portion of this success was attributed to smart mergers and acquisitions for SAS. The Star Alliance Group is an aviation consortium of which, SAS is a [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] founding member. SAS was willing to join forces with many other airlines in the past 50 plus years, and that strategy has paid off.

All airlines have done what Scandinavian Airlines has done. Expanding and capturing as much of the market as possible is the goal. Garnering the domestic flight routes [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] within Scandinavia is what made them succeed. The airline accomplished that feat by simply gaining either partial or full control of the [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] smaller airlines operating in their domestic areas. Air Canada and Continental Airlines are now part of the SAS.

The Norway division of Scandinavia [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] Airlines is actually called SAS Braathens. One other component of this company was called Scandinavian Airlines Norge. SAS Norway is the end result of changing Braathens to Norway in the [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] name. This process really was not confusing despite all of the controversy. The SAS Norwegian operations, as late as 2007, retains this [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] configuration until present day. Norway, for instance, still utilizes Scandinavian Airlines Norge to handle flight operations that are domestic in nature. Norway is no different than the other two SAS partner countries in that Norge handles outgoing international flights.

It is clear that the vigorous acquisition efforts of Scandinavian Airlines has paid [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] off over the years. The global Star Alliance group of airlines is a reality [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] because of Scandinavian Airlines. Extra financial security exists, because of these business alliances. In the hyper [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] competitive world [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] of air travel and aviation there is strength in numbers. Since the late 90's, the SAS has existed as four entities or divisions which include three divisions, one of each of Denmark, Sweden and Norway. Lastly, there is SAS Global which is [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] the international flight division.
